Looters Target Coney Island After Hurricane Sandy
Taking something that doesn't belong to you might be acceptable in an emergency situation to save a life, but looting after Hurricane Sandy swept through is indefensible. The looter in this image is shown being arrested, because looting is against the law. The people living in Coney Island were in such hysteria after the hurricane that they were stealing flat screen tvs, liquor, food, and anything they could get their hands on. I agree that this man in the image, along with all the other thieves should be arrested, because no matter what conditions you're in, it is not alright to take something that does not belong to you. People in the town were awestruck at the looters boldness to steal "in broad daylight" and "while the cops were standing right outside." I think this boldness that the thieves had was very selfish and wrong of them. It is ridiculous what people will do for themselves to take advantage of someone else's misfortune. There is no argument that makes looting right, and after Hurricane Sandy hit the looters arrested all deserve strong punishment like the man in this image.

Friday Night Lights
Friday Night Lights
Everyone has a passion for something. It doesn’t matter if it’s a sport, playing an instrument, photography, being outdoors, or even a person. My passion is playing football. During football season, I look forward to every Friday. On Friday’s, I wake up early and go to the football breakfast with my team. At school, I can’t concentrate on what my teachers are teaching because the only thing on my mind is the big game that night. Friday night football at Batesville High School is my passion.
I can relate to the poem “Friday Night Lights” by Adam James Law because it’s written about Friday night football and his passion for the game. When I’m in the field house, before the game is about to begin, I can relate to how Adam James Law feels when “you lace your shoes, and get one last stretch.” This is the time when you’re preparing yourself for the game. During this preparing time, I put my head phones in, shut the world out and listen to a song that gets me pumped up and ready to win. When I step out of the field house, just like Adam James Law, I get “a cold chill across the back” when I see the field and the huge crowd of Batesville Pioneer fans. This chill leaves a feeling of excitement.
As I walk down from the field house, “the tunnel awaits.” I enter the tunnel with my teammates and we begin yelling, hitting each others helmets, and getting fired up. We chant a song that we sing every Friday in the tunnel. The song says “we ready, we ready, we ready for y’all.” I can hear “people stomping their feet,” the cheerleaders right outside the tunnel cheering, and the fireworks going off as we begin to sprint out. “You rush onto the field, with nothing but pride.” This is the most overwhelming and exciting feeling, and I know “it’s time for victory.”
Just like Adam James Law, author of this poem about Friday night football, I have a passion for football. I love to play. There’s nothing better than scoring a touchdown or doing something awesome in a game and having your name being announced over the loud speaker. I not only love playing, but I also love the bonding and time I get to spend with my teammates and coaches. I believe Adam James Law did a great job in his poem in describing the emotion and feeling you feel before a game. I love Friday night football.

Pioneers Continue With Their Winning Streak
Pioneers
Continue With Their Winning Streak
Friday night the Pioneers clenched their 15th
streak conference win after defeating Nettleton 38-12. The Pioneers offense and
defense did an outstanding job working together. Even though there were
multiple players injured who could not play, other players stepped up to take
their role and do what they could to continue their winning streak. Nettleton played
hard against the Pioneers, knowing they’d be a tough team to face. However, Nettleton
Coach Jay Murphee said they ”didn’t block them very well,” and, as a result,
weren’t able to defeat the Batesville Pioneers.
I can relate to the article “Pioneers pick up pace, 15th
straight 5A-East win” by Paul Glover because I contributed to both sides of the
ball, offense and defense. Phillip Archuleta, the Pioneers leading rusher was on
the sidelines with a leg injury. I took his role by playing his position and
doing my best at it. I carried the ball 13 times. Out of those 13 carries, I
gained 93 yards and had 2 rushing touchdowns. Coach King was very impressed
with my performance saying “Joey isn’t a speed merchant, but he’s a tough young
man and he has great feet.” Not only did I step up and play a new position for
an injured player, but there were other Pioneer players who also contributed.
I think Paul Glover did a great job talking about the Pioneers
win against Nettleton last Friday night and how they worked well together. By
writing this article, Glover is trying to inform the local citizens of
Batesville, Arkansas about the Pioneers continuing winning streak. He also
informs you about many Pioneer players who had an amazing game against
Nettleton last Friday and all the stats of the game. As a player, it’s
important to me to have the team continue with hard work and not let our town
or coaches down. Also, it’s important to me and my team to continue on next
Friday night, with our winning streak.

Longtime Rivalry
Longtime Rivalry
After a long, hard working season of the previous year, the Batesville Pioneers went 11-3 and won their second straight 5A-East District championship. The Seacry Lions went 9-3, posting their best record in a decade while finishing third in the 6A-East and winning a playoff game. The two teams have been rivalries for many years. Coming together on Friday night they will renew their rivalry and determine whose side time is on.
Searcy Coach Tim Harper and Batesville Coach Dave King have worked hard to get their teams ready for the next season. Last Friday, the Lions beat the Little Rock McClellan 18-0 in a game lasting nine minutes, due to storms. “’I found out last night we were pretty good for nine minutes.’ said Coach Tim Harper, chuckling.” The Pioneers, however, lost 35-0 against the Springdale Bulldogs. These results left the Searcy Lions feeling very confident in their next game, against the Pioneers.
By writing the article “Lions, Pioneers will determine whose side time is on,” Paul Glover is trying to inform you about the Batesville Pioneers and Searcy Lions football team. He is also trying to educate you about the previous history of the two teams and key players who have important roles on the team. One key player on the Lions team, “Antwan Arnold, a 6-foot, 190-pound senior running back turned into the quarterback” due to outstanding athletic ability in both positions. He also goes on to tell more about other players and their positions.
The Lions and Pioneers will forever be rivalries and all the coaches, fans, and online viewers are excited to watch them battle it out this Friday night. I think Paul Glover did a fantastic job talking about the rivalry and informing you about the two dedicated teams.
