Pioneers
Continue With Their Winning Streak
Friday night the Pioneers clenched their 15th
streak conference win after defeating Nettleton 38-12. The Pioneers offense and
defense did an outstanding job working together. Even though there were
multiple players injured who could not play, other players stepped up to take
their role and do what they could to continue their winning streak. Nettleton played
hard against the Pioneers, knowing they’d be a tough team to face. However, Nettleton
Coach Jay Murphee said they ”didn’t block them very well,” and, as a result,
weren’t able to defeat the Batesville Pioneers.
I can relate to the article “Pioneers pick up pace, 15th
straight 5A-East win” by Paul Glover because I contributed to both sides of the
ball, offense and defense. Phillip Archuleta, the Pioneers leading rusher was on
the sidelines with a leg injury. I took his role by playing his position and
doing my best at it. I carried the ball 13 times. Out of those 13 carries, I
gained 93 yards and had 2 rushing touchdowns. Coach King was very impressed
with my performance saying “Joey isn’t a speed merchant, but he’s a tough young
man and he has great feet.” Not only did I step up and play a new position for
an injured player, but there were other Pioneer players who also contributed.
I think Paul Glover did a great job talking about the Pioneers
win against Nettleton last Friday night and how they worked well together. By
writing this article, Glover is trying to inform the local citizens of
Batesville, Arkansas about the Pioneers continuing winning streak. He also
informs you about many Pioneer players who had an amazing game against
Nettleton last Friday and all the stats of the game. As a player, it’s
important to me to have the team continue with hard work and not let our town
or coaches down. Also, it’s important to me and my team to continue on next
Friday night, with our winning streak.
